In order to create healthy communities with healthy citizens, we must all do our part, as individuals and as members of organized groups, to demonstrate a strong commitment to the importance of taking care of our own personal health - body, mind and spirit - as well as helping our family members and neighbors. These health efforts must be coordinated with local, regional, and state Public Health planning and services.

Healthy Acadia is a non-profit community organization committed to empowering people and organizations to build healthy communities across the greater Mount Desert Island region. We serve Hancock County, Maine with a focus on the towns of Bar Harbor, Cranberry Isles, Frenchboro, Lamoine, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Swans Island, Tremont and Trenton.

Healthy Acadia works with community assets and resources to collaboratively address the needs and the gaps identified by the community. We envision vibrant communities where people thrive and healthful resources are easily accessible.

Our programs and services include: Public Health Planning & Policy Development, Community Food Security, Positive Child & Youth Development, Healthy Aging, Pandemic Flu Preparedness, Farm to School and Chronic Disease Prevention.

Healthy Peninsula is a Healthy Maine Partnership that brings people and resources together to improve the health and well being of the communities of the Blue Hill peninsula, Deer Isle, Stonington, and Isle au Haut. The prevention, education and advocacy work we do helps people in our communities become healthier and increases local access to the state’Äôs public health resources.

Mount Desert Island Hospital has served the people of Mount Desert Island and coastal Maine with quality healthcare since 1897. Today we continue to serve by:

providing acute and primary care services, careful stewardship of resources, and a commitment to service excellence.

Maine Network for Health is an independent provider-owned service organization supporting practices, hospitals, purchasers and others providing high quality, efficient and affordable healthcare. MNH provides administrative, clinical, and quality support services through a strong team of professionals dedicated to superior cost-effective customer service.

Union River Healthy Communities is a healthy community coalition dedicated to improving health through education, advocacy and action. We empower our communities to be physically active, free from addictions, and to eat healthy foods. Union River Healthy Communities created My Health Finder in 2009. It remains one of our projects.

The University of New England's Center for Health Policy, Planning and Research (CHPPR), in collaboration with Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Mount Desert Island Hospital, Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems and four Healthy Maine Partnerships, is working on new ways to improve chronic disease care in Hancock County.

In October of 2007, this group formed The Hancock County Chronic Disease Patient Self Management Network and applied for a Network Development Grant from the Health Resource Services Administration (HRSA), USDHHS.
